Enter a Recipe by Hand
Sometimes there are websites where a recipe can’t be imported, or you may have a printed recipe card that you want to enter into your collection.
In the main menu under “My Recipe Box” select the “Add a Recipe” option. A blank recipe page will open up. Just fill in the required fields (title, ingredients, and instructions), and any optional fields you would like. Then, click the “Save” button and your recipe is now saved to your collection.
To add a photo to your recipe click the “Add a Photo” button. Next, click the “Choose File” button. Navigate to where your photo is stored on your computer. Select it and then click the “Open” button. Click the “Upload” button, and your recipe now has a picture. (Files must be .jpg .gif or .png and under 1MB)
Tagging recipes is a powerful tool to help you organize and find your recipes. To add a tag open up your recipe. On the right hand side under the heading “Tags” click inside the field box. Type the name of the tag you want to give your recipe, recipes can have more than one tag. For example, if the recipe was Spaghetti and Meatballs you may want to add the tags “Italian”, “Entree”, “Pasta”, and/or “Meatballs”. Enter only one tag at a time and then click the “Add Tag” button. You will see your new tag display in your recipe. The tags are linked to all other recipes that also have that tag. So, next time you’re in the mood for pasta just click your “Pasta” tag and all your recipes that share that tag will be selected for your viewing.

Yes, all your recipes that are stored in your free/member account are visible only to you. RecipeHive will never share these recipes with anyone. However, if you want to, we encourage you to share a recipe with a friend or to share your recipe with other RecipeHive users by posting your recipe on our blog. Recipes posted on the RecipeHive blog are visible to the public and these posts can no longer be edited by yourself once shared. However, you will still have your own private version of your shared recipe that you can edit within your account.
Your name is only visible if you post a recipe to the shared blog, or you post a comment on a blog post. You can change what is displayed by editing your profile. Under the “Name” section you have options to enter your First Name, Last Name, and Nickname. Next, go to the “Display name publicly as” field and select how you want to be know publicly on the site. If you don’t want to be know by your real name you could select Nickname for this field.
